Stick 'em up!

So, you're probably wondering where all the paper promo stuff for Magpie is....'who knows' would be the answer to that! Flyers & posters ordered, but nowhere to be seen, I'm beginning to worry a little as there is little over a week to go....flyers really are no good if they are floating around the ether rather than in somebodies hand!

So, anyway....here is the poster. If you want the full sized file, just email me and I'll send it to you to print out and plaster around the place! Or, just grab this one and stick it on your blog, facebook, peoples backs or wherever  you see fit! Hopefully the real ones will turn up soon...

Help!

With just less than two weeks to go until Magpie descends, it's a little like a scene from the Birds around here - but with less scary birds and more craft...maybe nothing like The Birds at all then - but hey, it's a good picture!

So anyway, there is a point to this post - we're after volunteers to help us out with the set-up and running of Magpie on 6th December. You could be helping us decorate the venue, showing people to their stalls, going on coffee runs, handing out fliers, directing people to the event, supervising Frank the Christmas Tree, helping out in our crafting area and various other things...

What we're after: a fun, friendly and cheerful soul who doesn't mind getting stuck in.

What we can offer: experience, references, a tea, coffee & lunch allowance (depending on length of time helping), a fun (but possibly hectic) day!

We've not set a time limit for volunteers, but we'd love one or two really fabulous people to be with us all day, but if you can only offer an hour or two that's fine aswell! Email us (magpiemarket@googlemail.com) with a little bit of information about yourself and what you might be able to help out with!

Rain rain go away....

So, the weather in the UK is pretty horrible right now, Edinburgh included. Luckily the Magpie team have been holed up inside with warm cups of tea, blankets and a fire unfortunately that's been in conjunction with horrible viruses (you win some, you lose some)

If you do have to venture out, make sure you wrap up in something fabulous, like one of the Dandelion Projects knitted collars, and pin your own little happy cloud, from Wooden Tree somewhere about your person.
All of which will be appearing at Magpie Market in December, so if you want to stay inside for the next two weeks that's fine by us!

home sweet home

The LOT will be our home on December 6th and we are very much looking forward to moving in!

Housed in a converted church in the heart of the Grassmarket in Edinburgh is the LOT. We are commandeering the whole building, which includes the airy space upstairs (with fabulous ceiling!), balcony and cosy bistro!

So, how do I get there? I hear you ask....

The LOT is situated at the west end of the Grassmarket, in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle. it is around a ten minute walk from the city centre and Waverley Station (exit via Waverley Bridge).

The Grassmarket and surrounding area is well known for it's unique boutique shops, and we are so pleased to be a part of that for the day!

Get Involved

So, you want to get involved with Magpie, but you're too far away/too busy/enter other reason here? (delete as appropriate) Well, do we have the solution for you!?

Why, yes we do!

As part of Magpies festivities, we shall have a little Christmas tree (called Frank) and we want your decorations to adorn the little fellow and your gifts to sit under his branches! These will be sold off throughout the day, with all proceeds going to the Woodland Trust. Think of it as a wee promotional opportunity (attach a business card or label to your decorations and make your wrapping out of flyers and adverts for your business) and a chance to do a good deed for trees everywhere!

Interested? email or leave a comment for details!

Keep an eye out for more opportunities coming soon!

Monday 16th November

Well, what a hectic week here at Magpie headquarters! I shant go into the ins and outs of what has happened this week, as I'm sure it's not very interesting to read!

We've had a fantastic response to Magpie, with some excellent applications, lovely messages and lots of support from everyone! Special thanks to our twitter followers or spreading the word!
I was very surprised when I started getting emails from people who had read about us in the Evening News on Saturday night! There have been a few people who contacted me yesterday to say that they wouldn't be able to get their applications in until today, so in the interest of fairness I have extended the deadline until today! However, I won't be sending out any new applications. So, if you requested an application pack and thought you'd missed out please send in your applications quickly!

A full vendor list will be announced on Wednesday!

Funky, Funky...

The first Christmas present I remember getting was a New Kids on the Block mix tape from my mum. Why buy one album when you can squeeze their entire back catalogue onto a double tape, and for free if you 'borrow' it from the library? I don't remember how old I was, although it was definitely before my 25th birthday. Anyway, it included all of their Christmas hits. I played it to death. It was special. It was handmade. However...It should not be repeated.

To ensure that we are not invaded by crazy NKOTB fans and have our ears bleed Magpie wants you to suggest some fabulous festive tunes for our winter playlist to accompany us on December 6th.

Leave your suggestions in the comments.....

Friday 13th....

Happy Friday 13th! Hopefully that means nothing more than there being only 2 days left to get your applications in! Have lucky days everybody and if you see Mr. Magpie...don't forget to say hello!
