This Sunday.....

Joanne MacFayden

Love Me Again

Rosita Handmade

A Wooden Tree
Magpie Market is still very much planning to go ahead this Sunday despite the cold, snow & awful travelling conditions of late. We're really hoping that the weather continues to 'warm' up and that we'll be able to welcome all of our stall holders from across Edinburgh.

Friday 12 November 2010

A little bit of vintage....

Vertiline in Love will bring a mixture of vintage pieces and a selection of fabulous vintage style, reworked accessories from a variety of designers.

Love Me Again has everything from vintage nightwear, babycham glasses and knitting patterns to old school satchels, teasets and vintage dressing table sets...and everything in-between. You're sure to find some treasures!

Excuses, excuses!

Well, apologies for the lack of sneak peeks and meet the maker posts....I got struck down with the Dreaded Cold (which is thankfully almost away in time for the weekend) which left me barely able to move let alone think up questions to email to our exhibitors!

SO. Instead you will just get a barrage of sneak peek images over the next couple of days! Starting NOW!

Alexandra Fiddes, part of the Such & Such collective makes stunning silver jewellery...I am coveting her twig ring .....hint hint Santa Claus!

Little Sister Lucy creates sumptuous, hand-dyed, hand made lingerie and sleepwear from gorgeous silks and Liberty print fabrics.

Caroline Clougley, another memeber of Such & Such makes beautifully dark & sinister jewellery....

Charlotte Hannett, the third member of Such & Such with yet more fabulous jewellery.

Opportunity!

We have a little opportunity for a cheerful, friendly, approachable somebody that doesn't mind the wind and possible rain...We're looking for a flyerer or two for this Sunday and also Sunday 12th December for the next Magpie. It's a paid opportunity, and we will also provide tea!

We'll need you from 11.30 - 4.30 or thereabouts.

Get in touch magpiemarket(at)gmail(dot)com.

Magpie Market....update!

There will be a review post of Septembers Magpie in the next few days, but just now I thought I'd give you a little update on the rest of the year....

Due to overwhelming demand applications for October are now closed. Applications for all future markets will close on 19th September, which gives you a few days to get an application in if you've been hanging on....

We're currently trying to see if we can squeeze more people in for the markets leading up to Christmas as there really has been such a high quality of applicants we really don't want to have to make some tough decisions!

We hope to notify everybody of the decision by 20th September!

Thanks for your patience! x

Conversation Pieces & Tea Cakes

(image from Nikki McWilliams)

Nikki McWilliams exhibition opening was on Tuesday evening. Lots of lovely people turned up, wine was drunk, amazing house/tunnocks themed biscuits were eaten (I have no pictures of these....) and drawings were purchased. There is now only two out of the four amazing original drawings left for sale, so I'd advise getting down to the Spider and The Fly early if you think you might like to buy one!

In celebration of the exhibition, all things Scottish and Conversation Pieces blog birthday The Spider and The Fly  is taking part in a give-away over at the Conversation Pieces blog. You can win one of Nikkis Tunnocks cushions! All you need to do is say why you need it in your life in the comments over here

Sneak peek....pt 3

Such and Such are.....

Alexandra Fiddes

Caroline Cloughley

Charlotte Hannett

Caroline, Alex and Charlie are all makers of contemporary jewellery. Their work (lucky for us!) compliments each others due to the theme of nature running throughout. Caroline uses real butterfly wings and unnerving "little people" to create jewellery with a rich internal narrative that stems from her fear of the much adored insects. Alex's bud-like structures are hand forged oxidised and raised then mixed with dyed felt and thread, forming organic pieces which seem to have been grown in an underwater garden! Charlie's jewellery is inspired by her home town of Islay. In her evocative pieces you will find pearly moons, silver waves and boxing hares.

Foiled

In homage to the humble Teacake, Nikki McWilliams presents a collection of drawings and sculpture in tribute to the humble tea-time treat, a family business and scottish culture.

Opening night 7th September 6.30 - 8.30pm....you coming?

Magpie vendor lists will be revealed shortly....there's only just over a week to go! If you want to help spread the word we could do with some help flyering both before the event and on the day. We pay in tea, coffee and cake. Drop us a line if you want to help out, or pop into The Spider and The Fly!

Apologies and Opportunities....

So, you may have noticed there's been a slight delay in notifying applicants about the next Magpie Market? Time issues, difficult decisions and now computer issues have all played a part. We have now whittled it down to a fine selection of vendors....who will all be notified when I can access the correct files. I really hope it's just a glitch and that it will all be fine tomorrow (fingers crossed). The wait will be worth it I promise!

Anyway...on to the opportunities...

We're going to give away some early bird goody bags to the first 50 shoppers through the door.

We would love you to contribute a little something - a badge, tutorial, zine. Something fun, something that shows people who you are and what you do....something a little more exciting than your business card! You can contribute any amount of things from 1-50.

If you'd like to contribute email magpiemarket@gmail.com for more information! All submissions should be received by 8th September.

We will also be running a bunting (and other things that hang) making workshop on Tuesday 7th September from 6.30....Come down to The Spider and The Fly and help us create some fabulous bunting (and other things). We'll provide the tea and biscuits just drop by!

Friday 6 August 2010
