Come into my parlour said the spider to the fly....

Well, what a busy couple of weeks! Time seems to have flown by so quickly....whoooosh. 


I was going to tell you all about Blood Tea and Red String, The ECA degree show, the Etsy Party.....and I will! But first, look look look! 

We got keys to the shop. The Spider and The Fly is a real life thing, albeit an empty, dusty shell at the moment! There's lots to do over the next few weeks (I almost typed months then....oh, to have months) but we will be open at the end of July. Mainly because I have promised people that the Cut-Click exhibition will be shown from 24th July - 7th August.....a nice deadline to work towards (don't forget to submit a piece to the exhibition). 


In other news I have been working hard on a dedicated website to The Spider and The Fly website, plotting and planning a fabulous workshop and events programme and getting everything in place to make The Spider and the Fly a pretty amazing place!

Magpie will be creating a fabulous, pop-up gallery space, The Spider and the Fly, filled with your original art work and prints and a quirky boutique stuffed to the brim with handmade treasures from the best indie designers around (that's you!).

We're open to just about anything – clothing, accessories, jewellery, home wares, toys – with a focus on handmade or vintage, well designed, unique and original products, so if you think you fit the bill get in touch for more information!

The Spider and the Fly is not just about selling your work. We want to provide the chance for you to share, swap and learn new skills and ideas. We will be running a series of workshops and events throughout the summer. If you're interested in hosting a workshop or demonstration (or have a specific request for a skill you'd like to learn) then get in touch with details.

Help!

With just less than two weeks to go until Magpie descends, it's a little like a scene from the Birds around here - but with less scary birds and more craft...maybe nothing like The Birds at all then - but hey, it's a good picture!

So anyway, there is a point to this post - we're after volunteers to help us out with the set-up and running of Magpie on 6th December. You could be helping us decorate the venue, showing people to their stalls, going on coffee runs, handing out fliers, directing people to the event, supervising Frank the Christmas Tree, helping out in our crafting area and various other things...

What we're after: a fun, friendly and cheerful soul who doesn't mind getting stuck in.

What we can offer: experience, references, a tea, coffee & lunch allowance (depending on length of time helping), a fun (but possibly hectic) day!

We've not set a time limit for volunteers, but we'd love one or two really fabulous people to be with us all day, but if you can only offer an hour or two that's fine aswell! Email us (magpiemarket@googlemail.com) with a little bit of information about yourself and what you might be able to help out with!

So, the weather in the UK is pretty horrible right now, Edinburgh included. Luckily the Magpie team have been holed up inside with warm cups of tea, blankets and a fire unfortunately that's been in conjunction with horrible viruses (you win some, you lose some)

If you do have to venture out, make sure you wrap up in something fabulous, like one of the Dandelion Projects knitted collars, and pin your own little happy cloud, from Wooden Tree somewhere about your person.
All of which will be appearing at Magpie Market in December, so if you want to stay inside for the next two weeks that's fine by us!
